Over $20,000 raised during GiveBIG
Our amazing supporters have again shown their steadfast commitment to the historic Weyerhaeuser campus and our community by helping us raise $21,000 during GiveBIG Washington, May 5-6.*
Some 40 donors rose to the challenge of matching funds from our Save Weyerhaeuser Campus board, advisers and an East Coast donor, pushing us well past our $10,000 goal for this major nonprofit giving event.
Our supporters join us in advocating for responsible development, both economically and environmentally, of this 400-acre legacy property and iconic urban greenspace.
King County’s latest open space equity report makes it clear that Federal Way is underserved, an "opportunity area" in need of more easily accessible open space. We know that the physical environment where we live affects both quality of life and life expectancy, and the current pandemic lays bare the health disparities and urgent need to protect and preserve this special property.
This is a critical time in our efforts, and we are committed more than ever to preserving the natural features of the property – open space, urban forests, lakes, wetlands and miles of trails.
As trailblazing anthropologist Margaret Mead said:
“Never doubt that a small group of committed, thoughtful citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.”
We sincerely thank our hundreds of supporters -- in the local community, around the Puget Sound region, and yes, even across the country -- for their dedication to this important cause.
